Sand filter media wears out over time, loses its shape, or becomes hardened, and generally needs to be replaced every 2-3 years. Activated carbon, on the other hand, is extremely resistant to abrasion and chemicals. This extends its lifespan to approximately 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n
